MOL suspended activities in Russia, all options open for the Baitugan oil field

Budapest, December 9, 2022 (GIA) – The Hungarian oil company MOL has suspended its activities in Russia, as it was told PoslovniFM at the company’s headquarters, after it had previously suspended all started works.

MOL thereby gives up investments, and considers the entire business in Russia, which includes various options related to the Baitugan oil field.

We do not rule out any possibility related to Baitugan, MOL’s position, as Poslovni FM has learned, is that all options are being considered, which will remain a business secret until the decision is made.

At the same time, in the current environment, regardless of earlier announcements regarding the construction of a rubber bitumen factory in Russia, MOL emphasizes that they do not plan to continue the planned investments.

As for the future procurement of Russian crude oil by Mol/Slovnaftov, MOL emphasizes that they strictly comply with all European Union sanctions in their operations, and these expectations also determine the future directions related to the procurement of crude oil. Once again, they emphasize their interest in the Adria pipeline, as well as the possible expansion of the Croatian part of the pipeline, which requires a decision from the Croatian side.

According to earlier information, the refinery in Bratislava should also test non-Russian oil during the winter, and MOL emphasizes that the testing is going according to schedule. They add that they work with variable ratios, technically adjusting the system to achieve optimal test results.

In May, MOL announced that it was deciding on 15 technological projects that would reduce the share of Russian crude oil in their refineries, and now MOL emphasizes that there are now a total of 24 projects related to the refinery in Bratislava and the creation of related logistics capacity.
